Onion Bhajee

Makes 18 bhajees
Prep Time 15 mins

  • 4 Medium onions
  • 8oz/225g Gram flour
  • 3 or 4 tsp Salt (depending on your taste)
  • 2 tbsp Mint sauce
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Fresh coriander-finely chopped
  • Vegetable oil for frying


  • Peel and thinly slice the onions
  • Sift the gram flour and salt into a bowl
  • Add enough water to make a stiff batter
  • Add the onions and all the remaining ingredients and mix well using your hands
  • Drop a tablespoonful of the mixture into the hot oil
  • Fry for 3 minutes
  • Remove the bhajees from the oil
  • Lay on kitchen paper and press into flat circular patti shapes
  • Return to the oil and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the outside is a dark brown


  • Coriander


  • Large mixing bowl
  • Large wok or deep frying pan

Cooks tip

  • Can be made the day before and kept in the fridge, cover with foil
